2007.02.08 Hailing on the Hobbit House and Random Loveliness

Yup, one thing about our Paris digs is that our "studio mansardé" is actually a tiny attic room with skylights
instead of windows. That's not too bad when it's sunny (you can get up on a chair and stick your head out the
window for the view), but this is Paris, and the sun just doesn't shine much in February.  What we have been
getting for the past day, though, is HAIL. So it's a little tricky to sleep when our skylights are being pelted with
little ice balls.

But we've heard that T.O. is getting some crazy -20 degrees Celsius weather these days so we don't feel too
bad.  On one of our first nights here, we looked up through the skylight and saw a lovely full moon and a few
stars.  It was definitely a Paris moment.

It feels like we're settling in to the life here a little.  Rod went off today to take some pics of Chinatown (he's
totally missing Asian culture in all this Euroland), and I spent the afternoon writing.  We had our first guest
for dinner tonight: Laura, a History PhD student from York.  It was nice to see someone from T.O.  She told
us about the weird house on Clinton St. with the wine corks all over it (of course we were drinking two euro!!
wine at the time).  Aaahhh Paris.  The city is just grossly beautiful and so knows it.  We were walking near
the Sorbonne today and saw the biggest rainbow in the sky... like come on, it's just too much ;)

Random things we've thought of and want to do:

*shopping!!!!!  everything from haute couture to Zara (and all its local knock offs) and flea markets
*museums: Picasso, Rodin, Musée d'Orsay, Musée du quai Branly, Musée de la mode, Centre Pompidou,...
*Montmartre and Sacré Coeur
*Notre Dame, again and again, that Church makes me want to reconvert to Catholicism (almost)
*the sewer tour, OK sounds a little gross, but apparently they found a complete movie theatre down there
last year!
*Versailles
*a wine tour of some sort

and the list does go on!  Well, at least we can undoubtedly say that we are happy to be here!

gros bisoux xoxo et bonsoir (the hail has stopped)
