2007.02.11  Notre-Dame de Paris

We're just a few subway stops away from this little "church", the centre of Parisian Catholicism since
St. Paul was running around the desert, or something like that (give or take a few centuries).  We
attended mass on Sunday, a kickback to my French-Canadian Catholic upbringing.  The whole thing
was accompanied by Gregorian singing, very Latin and ancient Catholicky.  We felt just a little tinge
of worshipper pride strolling past the Japanese tourists into the "mass area".  That's for four years of
temple exclusionism in Asia. The flashes still kept going off throughout the service, though, as people
strolled up the wing. The bulletin that week had the annual revenue of the "parish" -- five million euros.
Dang!  That's a lot of passing the hat.
