École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts

We leave for Prague tonight and Sue is doing some last minute research
work at a museum. I'm
working madly on some pieces for "La nuit blanche" in Toronto
and I thought
I'd take a break and
do a quick update instead of procrastinating with my latest poison:
Facebook.com. Really what I should
be doing is packing for our trip to Bohemia, but that's another story.
Here are some pics of the École nationale
supérieure des beaux-arts where I have been studying
classical drawing since March of this year. The grounds are a
little run down but spectacular. Many a
great artist has walked through these halls and I feel truly lucky to
have the opportunity to study here.
I work in the atelier, La
chapelle des
petits-augustins. It
houses Renaissance originals from the archives
of the Louvre Museum and looks a bit like a museum
itself. Classes have been very "old school"
(quite literally) where the teacher is unquestionably right...all the
time. My OCAD
formation of North
American free creative thought was not totally appreciated in the
begining, but I think I found
a happy
middle-ground at the school. I feel my drawings have
improved and that I got a good sample of the
French approach to
traditional art. To my pleasant surprise, the things I've learned from
copying
Michael
Angelo and other "masters" have even helped my digital art.
