Au Revoir Paris
Well, our time here is just about coming to a close. We're in the
middle of packing up our suitcases for the
long journey home that includes a one-night stopover in Amsterdam, and
a three-hour stop in Detroit before
we finally reach Toronto at 10:30pm local time on Thursday May
31st.
It has felt like we've fit a lot into four months here, with the
culmination point definitely being the news that Rod
has been accepted to the University of the Arts in London.
Knowing that we will be back on this continent in
2008 makes the parting a little easier for the timebeing.
The things we will most miss about Paris (in no particular order): our
friends-- especially the Mam family that
took us in so whole-heartedly and Waura ;) (but she's coming to
Toronto), the plethora of cheeses, the fresh
bread and pastries, the chocolate, the wine (I think we have put on a
few pounds by being here ;), the
architecture, the style, the arts, the galleries, the old libraries and
their dusty manuscripts, the Cité Universitaire
campus, our little hobbit room, the proximity to other places in Europe
(even though we didn't have much money
to tour around), the moderate climate (tanning in April).
Now for the reasons we're happy to be going back to Toronto: our
friends and family that we've missed; no
more RER B train, back to the clean, sewerless freshness of the TTC
(with no machine-gun armed military
dudes patrolling); the quality of Toronto's air; multiculturalism that
is seen as an asset and not a riotous smudge
on the country; fewer ads of half-naked photoshopped teenaged girls;
political correctness and liberal
North America (ISMS!!!!) in all its outlandish, flamboyant pushing of
human borders.
