FIRST ENTRY OF THE YEAR!!!

We’re on a boat heading towards the Krabi coast away from Ko Phi Phi.  We spent New Year’s Eve drinking with a couple guys from Holland.  One was of Moroccan descent and taught French as a foreign language.  He was a titch snobby regarding my ‘CanadiEN’ French.   But obviously had his own identity issues being a Moroccan fag in Europe.  I drank far too much but it was a good time nonetheless.

Now it’s New Year’s Resolution time.  In a word: cooking.  Hmmm… a metaphor for passion, relaxation, smelling the roses.

Went snorkelling yesterday.  Water sports are quite frightening for me.  But stunning to see clear through to hundreds of fish far below.

We’ve already passed the half-way point of our trip.  I do already feel so revitalized.  Now it’s on to Khao Sok to bathe with the monkeys (apparently).  Then Bangkok and potentially Kanchanaburi.

The air is basically non-existent in the bottom cabin of this boat.  Yuck.  Another hour of churning to shore.

It’s kind of funny to start the New Year shit-faced and hung over each time.  Perhaps one year I’ll just stay home with a pen and a notebook and start the New Year writing.   But this isn’t bad.

If we were back in Toronto we probably would have bought tickets to some dance club, and we’d still be totally hung over this morning.  Minus the sunburn.  I much prefer the sunburn.  Definitely a cool way to start the year.

I don’t know if I have the energy to return to all the “tukking” of the mainland.  And of course the searing sun.  the children are restless on the boat and mothers are screaming at them.

We’ve really overblown budget so we’ll have to cash more money in Bangkok.  What else is new?  Rod and I are pretty good at spoiling ourselves and making excuses to justify it.  Oh well.  You only live once, as the saying goes.

Uuuuhhh…. Hangover stomach is killing me.  Maybe it’s nap time for the rest of the ride.
