this update is LONG overdue.  big apologies.  but we've worked hard to get it up, especially the designer who clocked nuff overtime croppin and choppin all our travel pics.  so despite the tardiness, we hope you enjoy.

well, we've been back from NA for 2 months.  seeing family and friends was a life-affirming experience. especially little Blakus and the Lolas.  checking out NYC confirmed for us that somehow that city just fits (taking a step back and watching Bush's antics from this side of the ocean has us questioning it again, though).  the green (I mean trees, we get the other stuff in Japan) of Canada is being held like a sacred memory in my lungs.  hold on to that shit people.  week in China was really something but it was like watching a trailer and saying you saw the movie.  we saw Shanghai and Nanjing briefly, 2 enormous ancient cities.  highlights were climbing a nine-story pagoda on Zhongshan Mountain, seeing the war memorial in Nanjing, checking out the mad growth of Shanghai, and just repeating over and over to ourselves: "Holy fuck!  We're in China!"

tomorrow morn we're up bright and early to catch the bullet train from Tokyo station to Kyoto.  3-day mini break that'll have us temple hopping hopelessly as there are over 1500 temples in Kyoto.  we will definitely be snapping shots and reporting on it later.  tokyo and burbs are holding their own. weather is ideal, finally.  teaching is the doldrums most of the time with the odd inspiring moment.
