*once "maiko" become geisha, they remove the white face paint.  Until then,
they are sought after vigilantly by eager camera-holders across Kyoto.
In recent years, as the "real thing" dies out, a new breed of "maiko"
has been spotted and snapped (by ignorant gaijin) in the alleys of Gion.
