Naniwa kotoba  (Osaka-ben)

During the Edo era, Osaka was Japan’s marketplace.
Thanks to this culture of commerce, a special language developed and eventually came to be recognized
as the special Osaka ben, or dialect.  Below are a few earthy samples (mainstream Japanese in brackets):

welcome—okoshiyasu (irasshaimase)
thank you—ookini (arigatou)
I’m sorry—kanninna (gomen nasai)
how much?—nambo (ikura?)
